The hard part with exhaust painting is the expansion and contraction with the heat and cool makes the paint crack and flake. If you only take short trips the exhaust never gets hot enough to evaporate all of that moisture. Then let the paint dry for 1 2 hours before moving on to the curing process. Your exhaust behind the headers will not get as hot as the headers and the paint will hold up quite well.

I paint all my aluminized exhaust kits with rustoleum high temp bbq grill paint. I d go with the aluminized and paint the welded areas as well as the seams bends and it ll look good for quite a while.
